Catholic Bishop Joseph Mairura said in many occasions the church has been sidelined when politicians are making decisions.

“It is sad that some politicians have sidelined the church when making development decisions. Leaders need to know leadership without God’s intervention will be nothing.

"I wish to urge elected leaders in the two Gusii counties to consider involving the church when making decisions to develop the region,” he said.

Mairura regretted that some people are grabbing church lands instead they should be helping in building churches across the region for residents to worship in.

“Some politicians have been colluding to grab church land in the region. It is time politicians to be at the forefront fighting land grabbers in the region,” he noted.

He added that manifestation of discrimination against other faithfuls by the counties’ leaders is intolerable.

Mairura was speaking on Saturday during the official opening of Nyakwerema Catholic church building.
