Members of County Assembly led by Simon Wanango (from Lake View) now want NACADA to involve them in the fight against drugs.
The MCAs argued that they were more on the ground hence knew youths who were trafficking or selling drugs.
Speaking to the press in Naivasha, the MCAs cited that it became hard for police officers and chiefs to fight the vices as they were already known in the area.
“Area Chiefs are already known by the culprits, hence anytime they go for a raid, they are spotted from far by the suspects who disappear into thin air. We intend to use the people at the grassroots to help us deal with drug traffickers,” said Simon Wanango, Lake View MCA adding that if NACADA could incorporate them in the fight against use of illicit drugs, then it would be a bit easier to fight drug abuse among youths.
His views were echoed by Nominated MCA Esther Magere who claimed that NACADA was not giving keen attention to stakeholders who were on the ground in the fight against drug abuse in the area.
“It will be easier for NACADA to implement the project aimed at stopping illicit brew consumption if people on the ground were involved in the fight,” added Magere.
