Machakos County Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) chair-lady Fransiscah Mutinda wants the county government to involve women in development projects and other policy activities.
The MYWO chair-lady said that women at grass root levels were not being engaged in development.
Addressing Ukambani professionals at the Machakos stadium on Saturday, Mutinda said that the women have a right to be engaged fully in development and governance matters at the county and national government level.
She noted that a large percent of women in the county are not aware of the development projects the government is initiating.
“Our appeal is to the Machakos county government to ensure that women are involved in development,” she said.
The county MYWO chair lady urged the government to initiate forums where women will be sensitized on development projects.
Ms Mutinda also urged the county government to involve women in leadership and management positions.
She noted that the number of women in leadership and management positions at the county is low.
“The constitution agitates for equal representation of both men and women on matters leadership and our government should make sure that more women are included in the development committees,” she said.
The MYWO chair at the same time urged women to agitate for change. She indicated that the constitution has empowered women and that they must use the opportunity to advance their agenda.
