Naivasha chair of Maendeleo ya Wanawake Esther Nyokabi now wants women to be involved in security matters. Nyokabi cited that majority of the women in the county had ignored the responsibility of manning security in the area and had left it to the men. She was speaking to the press in Naivasha where she cited that community policing should involve more women as they were the ones who knew a lot of ground information. “Women have very tight circles. They often meet and talk in small groups. In fact, they will be the first to note in case there is something wrong in their area. It’s funny that they are not deemed as major stakeholders when it comes to promoting security,” she added Nyokabi cited that the Nyumba Kumi Initiative would succeed more if more women were involved. She also called on the women who have information regarding security matters to report them to the police. “It’s unfortunate that majority of the women live to regret the information they withheld yet it would have saved lives or prevented people from getting serious injuries. Women should learn to speak up and this will help lower the insecurity rates in the country,” she added
