The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has been asked to investigate an incident in which two women were allegedly assaulted by police officers at the Syungila AP camp.
According to The Star, the two women, Janet Mwikali and Irene Kambua are calling upon the authority to ensure that they get justice after being brutalized.
The two were allegedly detained and beaten after insulting a man of God. Kambua has claimed that they were framed by the clergyman, whose identity has not been identified.
Speaking after visiting the women on Tuesday, Human rights crusader Josphat Kasina asked the authority to ensure that the police officers are dealt with accordingly. He argued that the police are not above the law, adding that such incidents are unacceptable.
“It does not matter whether or not the women were in the wrong; there is no justification for subjecting them to such inhumane beatings. Fida Kenya and the ICJ will make sure they get justice,” he said, as quoted by the local daily.
The activist also claimed that the police officers have since been transferred to other camps following the incident.
