The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has condemned use of excessive force to disperse demonstrators saying that any errant member of the police will be held to account.

According to Kagwira Mbogori from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), any person in any part of the country should report any case of violence to (KNCHR).

IPOA bosses have said that independent investigations reveal that the anti-riot police officers brutally assaulted the demonstrators and that more investigations are being carried out.

The statement was made by IPOA are after demonstrations in which Cord leaders and supporters were demonstrating against IEBC commissioners where a police officer shot a man to death in Kibera.

James Owino, a witness said that the youth who was shot dead wanted to uproot a railway protesting exercise of force used against Cord protestors. The victim is said to have passed on while undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital.

IPOA has promised to ensure Kenyan citizens that police officers will adhere to the rule and regulations given to them while dealing with such circumstances.
