The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is monitoring the police recruitment exercise, that kicked off, today (May 11).

The National Police Service (NPS) is conducting the nationwide exercise, at the 292 constituency headquarters.The Service seeks to absorb 10,000 new police constables, for a nine-month training session at the Kenya Police Training College in Kiganjo, Nyeri and Administration Police Training College (APTC) in Embakasi, Nairobi.''Given IPOA's understanding that the work of professionalizing the police must start at the recruitment stage, IPOA will partner with the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) and the IG's office, as an independent monitor to the recruitment process stated for the 11th of May this year, which aims to add 10,000 new recruits to the National Police Service,'' said IPOA Head of Communications and Outreach Department, Dennis Danson Oketch.In a statement, Wednesday, he indicated professionalism, accountability and transparency are attributes and practices that have to be inculcated and practiced by all actors from the point of recruitment of an officer, all the way to their retirement."IPOA remains committed to being independent, impartial and shall monitor the extent to which the National Police Service Commission (Recruitment and Appointment) Regulations, 2015, will be observed during the National Police recruitment,'' he added.Recruitment centres at the constituency levels opened at 8am to 5pm, according.All applicants recruited for the training will work for a minimum of ten years.Persons eligible for recruitment should have scored a mean grade of D+ (plus), in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and a D+ in English or Kiswahili languages. They must also be aged between 18 to 28-years.
