Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), has raised concern, following media reports, that the police have received first aid kits, that include body bags, from the Kenya Red Cross Society, ahead of tomorrow's elections.

Chairman Macharia Njeru has indicated that IPOA supports that police should be equipped and be prepared for any eventuality in the election, but perception should not be created that they plan to take lives of Kenyans.

He said, police are not expected to engage in any activities that may lead to loss of lives, and further urged Kenyans to respect the law, as they exercise their democratic right, of electing their leaders, at the ballot.

"While enforcing the law, schedule six of the National Police Service Act is very clear that police officers must attempt to use non-violent means first," he said, Monday.

In a statement, Njeru also noted that IPOA has dispatched its officers to monitor conduct of the police officers engaged in superintending the elections, and that any officer found with misconduct during this period, will be hold to account.
