Residents of Irandi village Enchoro Nyaribari Chache have raised alarm over the increased cases of theft in the region.
The angry locals on Friday morning said that jobless youths have been making away with bananas from farms, maize, beans, chicken and other household items.
They now want the police to beef up security in the area, failure to which they will take the law into their own hands.
“We have been losing our property to criminals who don’t want to eat from their sweat. Police should be responsible in their duties to ensure there are no criminals allowed in the area or we take the law into our hands because the criminals are well known,” said Moses Machuka, a resident.
Kisii County police commander Hassan Abdi said police are pursuing thugs terrorizing residents in the area.
"We are not sleeping on our job. We are doing everything possible to ensure criminals are flushed out from the area,” said Abdi.
He urged parents not to allow children drop out of school at a tender age.
“Children dropping school have turned to be criminals. Parents should report children dropping school to authorities as this will help in ending crime in the area,” said Abdi.
