Residents of Witeithie Estate lynched a man, suspected to be a runaway robber, before dumping his body in the area dumpsite.
The suspect, who has been in the police records for a long time now, is said to have tried stealing form a neighbouring homestead on Tuesday night with his fellow who escaped lynching.
According to the area assistant chief James Nyoike, the suspects have caused discomfort to members for a long time in the estate and the police have been pursuing them.
“Despite being a well known thug, the deceased deserved to be held up in the police custody and later arraigned in court instead of murdering him brutally,” said Nyoike.
He added that the residents complicated the incident when they dumped the body in the dumpsite yet the water has been used before by the residents during the shortage period and they may need it again.
Confirming the incidence at the scene, area police boss, James Linguli, said that the police were informed by the concerned residents that the mob had caught a suspect and instead of calling the police they lynched him.
