Residents of Boroko village in Bomariba ward, Kisii County on Tuesday evening went on rampage over the poor condition of Matongo- Igonga road.
The locals led by Dan Onsase accused the area ward representative Protus Moindi for ignoring calls to repair the road.
“We have suffered a lot since the rains started because Matongo – Igonga road has now turned to be a farm. We will not allow anyone to use the road until a contractor is brought to repair the road to ease transportation,” said Onsase.
Eldanus Osamo, a trader at Igonga shopping centre said he has not gone to work for over 2 weeks.
He said he decided to remain in his house because Matango – Igonga road is not passable during this rainy season.
“Flooding rain waters have swept muddy to the middle of the road making it permanently impassable. Area MCA promised to repair the road within the first 3 months in office but that has not been done until today.," he said.
He supported the move by locals to put up bananas on the road.
Mr Osamo advised motorists to look for alternative routes in order to access the Nyakoe and Matango markets.
