Irish Foreign and Trade Minister Simon Coveney on Wednesday met with President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss trade bond between Kenya and Ireland.Coveney who is touring Africa briefed President Uhuru Kenyatta on plans to upgrade trade between the two countries.The Minister commended Uhuru's leadership saying it reflects the separation of powers in the country to the world.“One of the best things you have done is to remind the world that there is separation of powers in Kenya,” Simon Coveney stateThe Foreign Minister said Kenya has for a long time been linked to Ireland through Missionaries. He now wants the two countries to be linked to socioeconomic development.“We want to change our relations with Kenya to make them more comprehensive. In the past, our relations were driven by missionaries but as of now we want to be part of the new economic story being experienced in Kenya,” said the Irish foreign minister according to KBC.co.kePresident Kenyatta in response to Coveney said Kenya would be glad to engage in socio-economic development with Ireland as it will power the Kenyan youths.“As National Government, we would be glad to work together and offer support to potato farmers and also harness our Blue Economy so as to create opportunities for our youth,” President Kenyatta said.Earlier, President Kenyatta had said Youth Empowerment is the Key agenda in his government and would work towards ensuring Kenyan youths benefit from his government.
