National Super Alliance (NASA) CEO Norman Magaya has asked Safaricom, the nation's leading communication operator, to sponsor football in the country.
According to Magaya, the company is the most profitable company operating in the Sub-Saharan Africa and should therefore take over the Kenya Premier League (KPL), AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia sponsorships as a whole.
On a tweet posted on Saturday, Magaya maintains that ABSA is already doing the same in South Africa and Safaricom should follow suite.
"Gambling taxation aside.... There is no reason why Safaricom, the most profitable company in Sub Saharan Africa cannot take over football sponsorship right from KPL premiership, AFC & Gor. ABSA is doing it in SA. Let Safaricom share their loot," tweeted Magaya.
However, Magaya's call may be seen as speaking from both ends of the mouth considering the economic boycott NASA issued on the communication operator.
After the August 8th 2017 election, NASA asked its supporters to boycott Safaricom on allegations that they aided in rigging of elections. Football in the country faces a financial challenge after the main sponsor, Sportpesa, withdrew sponsorship citing high taxation from the government.
