Rumors have it that a foreign investor is in the process of acquiring the Mavuno Fertilizer department of Athi River Mining Cement Company in Athi River town. Several employees of ARM company who spoke to this writer on Monday and requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed the rumors and said that a white investor is poised to take over the management of Mavuno Fertilizer department.
ARM Cement Company is a public limited company which produces the Rhino brand of cement. ARM also manufactures the Mavuno brand of fertilizers. The employees of ARM have mixed feelings towards this new development. They do not know, for sure, what this new change of management will mean to them in terms of job security and remuneration. Some have expressed their joy, with hopes of getting better working environment and better pay while some fear what the future holds for them as the saying goes, “Better the devil you know than the angel you do not know.”
According to Wikipedia, ARM was founded in 1974 by the late Harjivandas J.Paunrana. It was established as company that manufactures lime. It has since developed and expanded to manufacture not only cement but also fertilizers. Pradeep Paunrana, the son of Harjivandas Paunrana, is the current Chief Executive Officer of ARM Cement factory.
