The country's political scene has of late been hit with a number of cases concerning defiance of court orders and failing to show up for sermons by both the opposition and government officials.
This has been happening without any actions taken against the victims.
It all started after the arrest of deportee and self-proclaimed NRM general Miguna Miguna.
Miguna Miguna was arrested after he allegedly commissioned an oath during the 'swearing in' of Raila Odinga.
He was later arrested and charged in a Kajiado Law Court in relation to the 'swearing in'.
The court through judge Luka Kimaru later ordered the release of Miguna Miguna on a cash bail of sh50,000 pending his arraignment in court for the hearing of the charges leveled against him.
Later on, the police would defy court orders to avail Miguna to court as had ordered by the court.
Another order by the High court to summon the IG and DCI concerning the release of Miguna was met with defiance.
As if this was not enough, the ICT cabinet secretary failed at least twice to appear before the Senate ICT committee over the media shutdown.
The CS was to give information on the shut down of four TV stations that happened in early January.
Lately, just the other day the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission snubbed an invitation to appear before the national assembly Public Accounts Committee.
EACC was to appear before PAC following queries raised on the audited accounts of 2015/2016.
And the prominent businessman, one Jimmy Wanjigi was not left out either.
The businessman was ordered by a Nyeri court to appear before the court to answer charges of being in illegal possession of firearms.
A charge in which Jimmy Wanjigi has since denied.
Therefore, could this trend of defiance be a new way of showing superiority or simply because impunity has been part of our culture?
