When the little- known Aden Duale made a huge plunge into politics in 2007, few gave him a chance to make it in the murky world of politics. Ten years later, the 50-year old has become a political monster in the country.
Vying on an ODM ticket, Duale resoundingly won the Dujis MP seat and was appointed as an assistant minister for Livestock in the grand coalition government where his political mentor Raila Odinga was the Prime Minister.
After a bitter fallout between Raila and then Eldoret North MP William Ruto,Duale gravitated to the Ruto side even as the duo forged a new political path.
Duale became a key figure in the country's politics in 2013 when he joined Ruto to form an alliance with then Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta.
Duale won the Garissa Town parliamentary seat in 2013 and was later rewarded with the prestigious Majority Leader position in the National Assembly, which has further helped to build his political fortune.
The 2017 election was expected to be an acid test to the 'son of the nomad', as his bitter critic and a veteran in the area politics, Farah Maalim was keen to oust him.
Undeterred, Duale dared the former Deputy Speaker to vie against him and in the end, it was Majority Leader who laughed last as he won his third straight election.
Maalim cried foul and moved to Court to challenge the win but his petition was dimissedby the High Court
The former Deputy Speaker announced that he would be challenging the ruling at the court of appeal. Irrespective of how the Court of Appeal will rule, Duale is becoming a headache to his local rivals. Who will beat him?
