Being one of the oldest constituencies in the country having been created in 1969, Changamwe has defined Mombasa politics for over four decades now. And 2017 will not be any different with August polls within site. The parliamentary seat is currently held by ODM's Omar Mwinyi who came to fill the big shoes of the retiring veteran Ramadhan Kajembe who graced the area politics for 15 years. However, for the incumbent, 2017 politics provide a different ball-game altogether considering the shifting political dynamics in the area.In the race for the precious ODM ticket during the party primaries scheduled for this week is Omar Mwinyi and a newcomer Ali Goshi, a close ally of Governor Joho.Despite enjoying good relationship with majority of the MPs from the county's six constituencies, Joho has been engaged in some feud with Mwinyi amid claims that the county government has not been able to deal with perennial land issues in Changamwe; something that made locals to turn against the lawmaker.Aware of the repercussions of such frosty relationship with the Governor, Mwinyi gravitated back into the Joho axis and has been conspicuously present in nearly all of the latest Joho's press conferences. However, the duo's political differences are seemingly not yet over as Goshi is allegedly being fronted by Joho to oust the incumbent. To further complicate Mwinyi's political game is the latest endorsement of Daniel Muange by his Wiper Party to contest the seat, his entry throwing the spanner into the works for the 58-year-old incumbent who is now fighting for his political life.
