Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has defied all odds to rise to the key leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement party and The National Assembly as the minority whip.
Junet Mohamed became the first Kenyan Somali to be elected Member of the National Assembly in Nyanza Province. He represents Suna East constituency in Migori county. Being elected as Member of Parliament hailing from ‘minority’ community considering he was born in Mandera but grew up in Migori county, he believes its a clear sign that Kenyans have matured democratically and anybody with good vision could be elected despite his background.
Junet has been pictured severally with National Super Alliance Principal Raila Odinga at Raila's home and in high profile political meetings. Key among them that really proved that he holds a dear place with Raila and falls within his trusted inner circle is when he was seen coming from the meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga on Friday 9th March 2018.
The meeting between President Uhuru and Raila was top secret that very few people knew. For the rest of the country it was a political shocker that only came to the limelight after the meeting was over and the two leaders were coming out to address the press.
Come to think of Junet Mohamed not only knew about the meeting before it happened but also attended it proves beyond any reasonable doubt that he is a key pillar to Raila and a close confidant.
