Claims have emerged that Kiambu Governor William Kabogo is seeking to deputize Deputy President William Ruto in 2022’s general elections.

Close sources close to Kabogo claim that he is working on strategies that will see him become Ruto's running mate in 2022, and according to a source, Kabogo has started lobbying support of Mt Kenya leaders and some point-men in the Rift Valley.

Early this year, a section of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Kiambu endorsed Kabogo as the right candidate to deputize Ruto, saying he is the senior most politician in Mt Kenya after President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The County Assembly members argued that after the retirement of Uhuru from active politics will give Kabogo the chance to be the region’s political kingpin.

According to Peter Ngure, a political analyst in Kiambu, Kabogo could be eyeing to Deputize Ruto in 2022, adding that his recent remarks that Mt Kenya region might not support Ruto were not out of context.

“People should not condemn him (Kabogo), the governor knows what he is doing and his strategy might be to be the running mate for DP Ruto come 2022,” said the analyst.

On Saturday, Kabogo joined DP Ruto in Kuresoi North when he issued land title deeds to locals where he pledged to work with the DP.

Kabogo also took the opportunity to clarify his recent remarks that insinuated that it was not automatic the Mt Kenya region will support Ruto in 2022, saying that he was misunderstood.
