Governor William Kabogo has maintained that he is not quitting Kiambu gubernatorial race in favour of Jubilee’s candidate Ferdinand Waititu.

Speaking a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto toured the county to drum up support for Jubilee Party candidates, a defiant Kabogo insisted that he won’t be persuaded to withdraw his candidature.

“No amount of coercion and intimidation will stop me from defending my seat in August. It is my democratic right to run as an independent candidate,” he said during an interview on a local vernacular radio station on Monday.

During a campaign rally in the area on Sunday, the Jubilee top leaders urged Kiambu residents to adopt six-piece voting pattern in the elections slated for the 8th of August.

DP Ruto prevailed upon Kabogo, who was conspicuously missing from the rally, to throw in the towel and support Waititu, promising to include him in the next government if Jubilee wins the poll.

But the Governor said nothing and nobody could stand between him and the ballot box and exuded confidence that he will defeat Kabete MP with a huge margin.

He said that his development track record speaks for itself and pleaded with Kiambu voters to give him another chance to serve them.

“Kiambu people are ready to vote me back because they have seen what I have done for them and they would wish that I continue and complete the development projects my government has initiated across the county,” Kabogo said.
