Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka’s dream of rising to presidency hangs in balance. The Ukambani political kingpin is a victim of political culture and voting patterns. Kenyans no longer vote for good leaders but on ethnic lines when it comes to the nation’s top seat.
Looking at the demographic composition of this nation, Kalonzo stands a minimal chance of beating Jubilee if President Uhuru Kenyatta retains power, and agrees to back President Deputy William Ruto in 2022. If the voting patterns do not change, Kalonzo will have to fight to avoid voter apathy in strongholds of the opposition
Secondly, Kalonzo is a victim of the constitution. Despite NASA garnering more votes than the opposition did in the last general election, Kalonzo is likely to remain jobless. Kalonzo will not be in parliament if NASA loses to Uhuru when that time comes.
Thirdly, Kalonzo is can be compared to a village boy who cries wolf. The opposition only accepted defeat ones since he started contesting for the presidency. This has made many believe that he will not accept the outcome of the election even if the exercise is free and fair.
