Senator Susan Kihika has been accused of undermining Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
Critics say Kihika was behind the rejection of four nominees to the County Executive Committee by the MCAs.
A source close to the Senator told a local daily that Kihika is frustrating the Governor because she is eyeing the county's top seat in 2022.
Kihika, the former Speaker of Nakuru County Assembly, has however denied the existence of supremacy battle between her and Kinyanjui.
Speaking to Sunday Standard, she downplayed the claims, saying her role as senator is to help the county to achieve its development goals.
"I have no time to fight the governor. My core interest is in Wanjiku getting services from the county," Kihika said.
During the election of the assembly speaker, a faction MCAs allied to Kihika defeated a group supported by Kinyanjui.
John Maina Kairu, who had been endorsed by Kihika, was elected the assembly boss.
On Saturday, the two county leaders attended the burial of Veronicah Muthoni, a victim of Lake Nakuru chopper crash.
They both pledged to support the search mission of the two missing bodies.
