Kimani Ichung'wa is the only unopposed candidate in the hotly contested elections this August. For that reason, the Kikuyu Constituency, Kiambu County legislature is the only Member of Parliament elected.

Dennis Itumbi, popularly referred to as the Jubilee Administration's Spin Doctor handling presidential communications has confirmed on his official Facebook page that the Deputy President William Ruto will not be attending the deputy president debate slated for tonight. In confirmation, Kimani Ichung'wa has assured Kenyans on his Facebook page that he is ready and have prepared to represent the deputy president at the Presidential Running Mates Debate scheduled to held tomorrow televised live in all major media stations in the country.

The deputy president is said to be held in other engagements with the president and therefore unable to attend the debate.

This begs the question, is Kimani Ichung'wa being groomed to take the DP position in 2022? Ruto has declared his interests in the presidency come 2022. A lot of speculations on who will be his running mate remains rife.

His articulations of Jubilee's achievements and plans going forward is to be admired and missing the debate would be a big blow to the debate organisers.

While Ichung'wa is also vocal in Jubilee's politics, him being flaunted to represent the Deputy President is seen as a big move to push him further into the limelight.

There is a lot of flip flopping by presidential candidates, most who are threatening to skip the debate. It is not clear if the organisers will allow representations of candidates by other persons not running for the position.
