Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi stamped his authority in the county politics on August 8 when he successfully defended his seat after a resounding win, sending experienced politicians in the county parking.
Kingi, 43, has not lost an election in his life. Last Tuesday's win has further raised his political stature not only in Kilifi but also in the entire country.Kingi, a die-hard supporter of ODM leader Raila Odinga, has managed to take the Jubilee government head on and is destined for a bright future in politics.Kingi managed to deliver all the seven parliamentary seats in the county to ODM and by extension NASA, with those who rebelled against the former Prime Minister's Orange party being sent home.Besides clinching all parliamentary seats, ODM won nearly all County Assembly seats, a true testament to Kingi's influence in the county politics. Kingi delivered over 80% of the total votes in Kilifi to NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga , a figure slightly higher than Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's delivery of over 60%.He may not have a huge following like Joho, but Kingi will be a political force to reckon with especially in 2022, when he will be ineligible to vie for governor.
