Two weeks after a borehole was sunk in Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, patients and the hospital staffs are still experiencing an acute of water shortage.
Kisii Governor James Ongwae commissioned drilling of the borehole on 8th February as an emergency plan and promised to construct a 250,000-liter underground tank and an additional water treatment plant to curb any future shortage.
Since the borehole was sunk, nothing has been done to ensure the project is successful and helpful to the hospital.
The hospital's tanks have remained empty as no water from the borehole is pumped to ensure adequate supply.
"The borehole was sunk two weeks ago, no water has been pumped into the tanks. For a hospital, two weeks is too much time," a patient lamented.
Water shortage has led to poor sanitation in the hospital which has posed danger to the patients' health.
Water taps in the hospital have remained dry with no adequate water to flush the toilets which have attracted charges for the payment of the washroom services by patients.
Ironically, the hands washing area that was launched in January 22, 2018 by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner General, John Njiraini has remained dry.
The sunk borehole was the first one ever since the hospital was built 97 years ago.
