If you enter African heritage house in Mlolongo, you will find a photo hanged on the right side of the main door.
The photo shows how the modern day Mlolongo town looked like in the 1980s. It shows a vast expanse of land littered with thorny bushes and shrubs.
Zebras and wildebeests, probably from Nairobi National park, are seen grazing in the background.
Looking at the photo, it is hard to imagine that that is how the present day Mlolongo town used to be. In just 30 years, Mlolongo has grown to be the biggest towns in Machakos county.
With high-rise commercial and residential buildings, banks, schools, supermarkets, hundreds of bars, restaurants, high-end hotels and thousands of retail general shops and mobile money transfer agents, Mlolongo is now an economic hub.
Whether the growth is because of its proximity to the capital or the biggest international airport in East Africa, Mlolongo's growth is so alarming.
A new huge bus terminus is under construction. Mlolongo is truly the place to be.
