Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali has said the many political parties in the country have been used by politicians to divide Kenyans along tribal lines.
The UDF MP said recent riots experienced in Kakamega during Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula's Presidential bid launch would have been avoided if Cord leader Raila Odinga, Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka and Mr Wetangula were in one party.
He challenged Cord leaders to use political unity to enhance national unity.
The MP advised Cord affiliated parties to form one party under which they will face the Jubilee coalition in the 2017 polls.
He said Cord whose majority supporters come from Western Kenya needs to dissolve and go to the elections as one party.
The MP's advise comes days after Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale publicly announced he had ditched UDF which is an affiliate party of Jubilee to join Ford Kenya.
Mr Washiali said that the intolerance that had been witnessed in Kakamega between supporters of Cord coalition affiliate parties would not be witnessed if Cord were a single party.
He challenged the three Cord Principals to consider having a single political party if they intend to unify the nation and provide a stiff contest during 2017 polls.
"ODM party leader Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Wetangula should consider having a single political party in a bid to unify the nation and give a good command in the next general elections," said Washiali.
During Mr Wetangula's Presidential bid launch, scores were injured after button-wielding youth disrupted the meeting.
Mr Washiali took over the leadership of UDF from Mr Mudavadi and has been advocating for the unity of people from Western Kenya.
