As the supremacy battle between NASA and Jubilee continues to grow in the race for Mombasa votes, both political formations have planted point men in the vote-rich county.

With NASA banking on firebrand Governor Hassan Joho and Senator Hassan Omar to lock out of Jubilee in the region, Jubilee is relying on governor hopeful Suleiman Shahbal and Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima to chip away Raila's votes.

Mwahima's fading influence in the county was tested on Friday during Jubilee's political rally at Caltex grounds, an event that subjected him to public humiliation in his own backyard which he has reigned politically for one decade.

The lawmaker who had accompanied Deputy President William Ruto was greeted by jeers from the residents who booed him off the podium as the unga debate punctuated the rally.

With Likoni constituency boasting of one of the highest voting populations in the county, the significance of those votes cannot be ignored especially for President Uhuru Kenyatta who is keen to correct his dismal performance in the county in 2013.

However, to get a share of those votes, he must have strong men on the ground. Unfortunately, Mwahima is not one of them.

Already unsure of defending his seat in the wake of a looming political showdown, Mwahima cannot be a point man for a party that is unpopular on the ground.
