That Migingo Island is one of the most controversial Islands in East Africa is not in doubt. So, when John Mbadi of NASA comes to the press to announce that there is trouble in Migingo, we have to stop and listen to him.The Igbo people say that when alligator comes out of the water and tells you that crocodile is sick, you have no option but to believe. We have to believe Mbadi's story of what is actually happening in Migingo!Yet the gods warn me that Mbadi is merely a rouble-rouser keen to maintain NASA's presence in the media. Much as we sympathise with the fishermen of Migingo for the challenges they go through on daily, it would be utterly unfair for Mbadi to try to put Uganda and Kenya at loggerhead. There are diplomatic channels to be followed in cross-border conflicts. Unless there is proof that these channels have been exhausted, we must resist the temptation of beating the drums of war. As one poet aptly put it, the god of war has plenty of water, but he sadly chooses to wash with blood. Migingo must maintain the relative calm we have all along witnessed in the rocky Island.
