In a press statement on Wednesday by Nominated Senator Zipporah Kittony who is also a KANU NEC member, KANU distanced itself from remarks made by the party's Secretary General Nick Salat, announcing that the party had joined NASA.

"Kenya African National Union (KANU) supports the idea in its formative stage of opposition unity in that this and the resolve by opposition leaders to field one presidential candidate is a milestone for Kenya's growing democracy," the statement said in part.

"However, the remarks made by Nick Salat, the Secretary General of KANU today at the Bomas of Kenya are his personal sentiments and do not reflect in any way the position of the party on the matter of an election coalition at this juncture," added the statement.

NASA, is ANC's Leader Musalia Mudavadi brain child idea that seeks to bring together all Opposition players to form a united front that will face Jubilee Party in the August polls.
