Dr Miguna, who played a major role in Raila's swearing-in as the people's president on January 30, was deported to Canada over his involvement in the controversial oath ceremony.

However, his return to the country on Monday has generated mixed reactions across the political divide, as he continues being held at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

For all the drama that has taken place since Monday, Miguna's supporters have now turned their anger on Raila.

Why? To them, the recent popular handshake between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta was expected to bring reconciliation in the country.

Miguna's supporters have argued that the firebrand self-proclaimed NRM general ought to be a beneficiary of the truce between the two political rivals.

Raila's political base of Kisumu, which also happens to be Miguna's home county, was rocked with demonstrations on Tuesday with a section of locals chanting "No Miguna no peace" slogans.

The residents have faulted Raila for failing to secure the release of Miguna, despite him visiting him at the airport on Monday.

The planned tour by President Uhuru and Raila in the region to preach peace may now have to be pushed forward.

The question on the minds of many is whether Raila will stand the test of time as his support in the region that has rallied behind him for decades seems to be diminishing.
