Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has rubbished reports in the media claiming that he has stepped down from the Nairobi governorship seat in favour of former Presidential candidate Peter Kenneth.
In a statement published on his official Twitter account on Monday, the legislator maintained that he was still in the race to unseat governor Evans Kidero, adding that.
“It has come to my attention that some malicious politicians are out to confuse our supporters and the great people of Nairobi County that the Jubilee Party has struck a deal on a line up for the August elections,” Sonko said.
"I will never ever step down for anyone. I am not for sale and neither are my people. Let us meet at the ballot wananchi waamue (for the electorate to decide)," he added.
Senator Sonko is seeking to vie on a Jubilee Party ticket, that has attracted other political heavyweights including former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja, Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru and former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru.
Sonko has previously been on the spot from a section of Jubilee Party leaders for branding Peter Kenneth 'a foreigner' and 'an outsider' in City politics.
