Opposition party ODM Chair Mombasa chapter Mohamed Hatimy has accused the government of deliberately sabotaging the party's activities in the Coast region.

Speaking on Saturday, Hatimy described the refusal by the police to grant the party permission to hold a public rally at Mvita grounds on Sunday as a plot by the Jubilee administration to hamper ODM's activities in the area.

According to Hatimy, the police officers declined to offer security during the rally, stating that they will be instead guarding President Uhuru Kenyatta who is set to hold a parallel rally at Tononoka grounds.

“We were first to organise a rally. We had scheduled it even before the Governor (Hassan Joho) jetted back,” the Star quoted him.

“Does this mean that no other functions can take place in Mombasa because the President is around?” he posed.

Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho was set to lead the ODM Party rally.
