Political analyst David Mwenda has warned of a wider conspiracy by both Jubilee Party and the National Super Alliance (NASA) to delay the August polls.

"Why does it appear as if the opposition and the ruling party are bound by a conspiracy to delay the election? Is the IEBC confident of holding a free and fair election?" He posed.

In an opinion editorial published with the Star Newspaper on Friday, Mwenda added that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) appears unprepared to conduct the polls, further questioning the competence of the electoral body that was installed just six months to the general elections.

"The recently constituted IEBC is a major concern. Despite warnings by Justice Johann Kriegler that we should never hold elections without having an independent electoral team in place two years prior, we disbanded ours and concocted another a mere six months before Election Day," he postulated.

"It is now becoming increasingly clear that our current IEBC may not be competent or ready to conduct the election," he added.

IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati has, however, affirmed the commission's preparedness to hold the August polls.
