The deputy president, William Ruto, has all reasons to worry when it comes to his 2022 presidential bid if the new development is anything to go by.
This follows the new claims by Nairobi governor Mike Sonko that some Mt. Kenya member of parliaments have been holding night meetings basically to block Ruto from becoming the country's president in 2022.
Speaking on Saturday during Palm Sunday church service, Mike Sonko attacked a section of Mt. Kenya MPs for what he referred to as a plot to scuttle the 2022 ambitions of the deputy president William Ruto.
"Refrain from those night meetings, central people do not allow yourself to be split. My brother William Ruto have stood with Uhuru Kenyatta these two terms. Uhuru Kenyatta did his first term and he is now in his second but you've never heard William Ruto going against that. So let us do the same to deputy president Wiliam Ruto," said Sonko.
However, former nominated senator, Isaac Mwaura, has today rubbished Sonko's sentiments. Speaking on an NTV show this morning, Mr. Mwaura claimed Sonko was only making himself relevant.
"There may be some people who may want to re-organise re-strategise and that is fare enough but we have agreed with principals that person we are backing in 2022 is non other than William Ruto. So is just a question of creating suspicion, division or maybe Sonko is trying to make himself a bit relevant and divert attention from the problems in Nairobi," said Isaac Mwaura.
