The Jubilee coalition's blueprint for the youth during the 2013 general election campaigns arguably endeared the candidature of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy  William Ruto to many youth desperately searching for jobs.

The promise to create millions of jobs for the young citizens lured many into entrusting the Jubilee duo with the only power in their hands; their vote.

But with 17 months to the end of their term, nothing has changed.

Many youths are still enduring the agony of joblessness.

A friend jokingly put it; "Uhuru has managed to deliver a million jobs for the youth."  By this, he was referring to the sports betting culture where a majority  of youth continue to indulge in with the hope of multiplying the little pennies they have into millions.

Walking across the Kenya streets, "umeeka wapi pesa leo", has become a cliche.

Sports betting has become their only hope of generating income.

The risky gambling affair has not only come as a hope for many, the negatives it brings with are now being felt.

A student in Eldoret resorted to suicide after losing Sh40,000 school fees to gambling, while another in Kisumu resorted to dropping out, all for the same reason.

This, and many untold incidents continue to dent hopes of better livelihoods for the young citizens.

The same government that promised jobs to the youth continues appointing and recycling the same old faces to lucrative government jobs.

The recent appointment of Henry Kosgey, Francis Kimemia , Hussein Ali among others to chair different parastatals boards begs the question; when will the problem of joblessness among youth be tacked.

While many would disagree with me on the eligibility of the appointments on grounds of experience required for the heads of these boards, I would not want to believe that these are the only Kenyans with such experience.

The message is; let us see some new, revamped faces.

Until then, the question is; what is left for the youth in this nation?

Can they still hope for jobs?
