With President Uhuru Kenyatta’s swearing in for a second term slated for Tuesday November 28, his next task will be to craft a new cabinet to steer his agenda for the next five years.
With reports emerging that several current Cabinet Secretaries could be axed from the next cabinet with poll losers taking over the places, former Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro could be one of the beneficiaries of the new arrangement.
According to the Nation, Mining CS Dan Kazungu is one of the many current Ministers who may be dropped in the new-look cabinet which is expected to have a sizeable number of August 8 poll losers.
Kazungu, former Malindi MP, was poached by Jubilee from ODM in 2014 and was handed CS position with Kazungu Kambi dropped.
But his reported axing may be good news for Mung’aro, a key member of Jubilee in the region, who lost in his bid to oust Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi.
Mung’aro who served as Minority Whip in the National Assembly in the last government masterminded ODM revolt in the county which saw several elected MPs jump ship to Jubilee. However, all those who rebelled against NASA leader Raila Odinga lost their seats during the August poll.
The former lawmaker went on to become a key member of the Uhuru campaign team in the region that is quite receptive to opposition politics.
Constitutionally, Cabinet Secretaries are supposed to be technocrats who are apolitical. However, the President may come to the rescue of Mung’aro’s political career which is now hanging on balance
