According to a section of Deputy President William Ruto’s close allies, the unity deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga is going to be helpful in ensuring Ruto ascends to the presidency in 2022.
Led by the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, the team advised President Kenyatta to give the NASA leader a big office with all the staff the he requires.
In doing so, they are to make sure the former Prime Minister’s work is concentrated abroad so that he doesn’t have time to make rounds across the country.
“We have spoken and accepted with Uhuru Kenyatta to give this Mzee a big office in Nairobi, with all the workers he wants. But his job must be in Addis Ababa, Geneva and New York. We don’t want him to roam in Kenya,” said Murkomen.
This sentiments were echoed by Cherangang MP Joshua Kuttuny who said that the “old man” (Raila) did very well joining the Jubilee government. This would benefit Ruto’s ambitions of becoming the president come 2022.
More so, more ODM party MPs from the Coastal region vowed to support DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid. He is currently using the Uhuru-Raila handshake to expand his political reach in the Opposition strongholds.
