Even as he plots to make a swift political comeback after the 2017 debacle that saw him lose his seat, former Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura has much to do.

His recent appointment to the newly-created Chief Administrative Secretary for the Ministry of East African Affairs by President Uhuru Kenyatta, could boost his chances of recupturing his seat. But it all depends with the direction Luo Nyanza politics will take ahead of 2022.

Theoretically speaking, the recent political truce between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his rival Raila Odinga favours Obura considering that the Jubilee mole tag cost him the seat last year has since disappeared, but things may change in the next five years.

Since his appointment, Obura has maintained an uncharacteristically low political profile. The once-vocal politician is now ' missing in action'. And even after the handshake, the former MP has steered clear of the matter. Could it be a political strategy? Well, it could be.

To survive in Kisumu, the hinterland of Nyanza politics, one has to study the political terrain first before making a decision. With the handshake being the hottest political topic now, Obura could be following the developments keenly before making a decision. Though 2022 is far, the CAS's silence could be sending shock waves across his constituency.
