Shabir's race was considered his great undoing. He, however, defied the odds and won. Now, the Kisumu East MP seat is synonymous with him.

The lawmaker went ahead and confirmed that he is not a political lightweight when he retained the seat with a resounding margin in the 2013 election.

Last year's General Election tested his long political career as he was  floored by Nicholas Oricho during the ODM nominations putting his political future in doubt.

Following the loss, he quickly jumped ship and contested as an independent but remained loyal to NASA leader Raila Odinga.

In the election proper, Shabir went against the wave and beat Oricho and Jubilee's Joy Gwendo to retain his seat.

The MP, who is now into his third term is not only one of the longest serving legislators in Nyanza but also in Kenya.

Having fully mastered the region's political terrain, the former Kisumu Mayor is simply 'unbwogable' in the region, for now, Shabir is the 'king' of Kisumu East.
