After losing in the shambolic ODM nominations in 2013, John Olago Aluoch's political career was left hanging on the balance. However, he managed to retain his seat and repeated the same four years later.Olago joined elective politics in 2007 where he contested in the Kisumu Town West seat on an ODM ticket. He won by a landslide and since then, he has endured political storms which have made him such a formidable political force in the county. After losing in the 2013 ODM nominations, he decamped to Ford Kenya where he comfortably defended his seat by defeating the ODM candidate. By so doing, he made his impact felt in Kisumu, the heartland of opposition leader Raila Odinga. In the run-up to the August 8 election, he succumbed to the demands of his supporters and rejoined the Orange Party. He, however, did not last long in the giant party. He decamped to Ford Kenya, led by NASA coalition co-principal Moses Wetangula and used the pro-multi-party democracy party as his political vehicle in the 2017 poll. Just as he had done in 2013, Olago survived the ODM wave again after defeating his bitter rival John Awiti by over 8,000 votes. In the process, the seat eluded Raila's party again. Surviving the ODM wave in Nyanza for two consecutive elections is no small achievement. The University of Nairobi-trained Lawyer has proven that he is a giant killer in Nyanza, the region which Rails has reigned politically for decades.
