Simiyu had pleaded not guilty before Senior Resident Magistrate Vincent Adet and was granted a surety bond of KSh20, 000 or cash bail of KSh5, 000 but was unable to raise.

When the time came to take prisoners to Kitale prison, simiyu hurriedly untied his shoe laces and combined the them then made a knot and hang on his neck and then tied the other end of the grill inside the court cell.

As he tried to pull himself, the weight became too much for the rope and it snapped landing him on a floor with a painful thud while choking.

Other prisoners and Police broke into laughter as Stephen pretended to have died.

The prison wardens later rushed him to hospital.

Tranzoia west police boss Jackson Wenga confirmed the incident saying that Stephen will face other charges.

“That was a stupid thing for him to do since he will face another charge for trying to kill himself,” said
