The Coast region has been on the political spotlight over the last few years thanks to its new crop of leaders who are ready to stand for the rights of their people.
The death of former Kisauni MP Karisa Maitha in 2004 dealt the region a major political blow. However, a few years later, Hassan Joho emerged to fill his big political shoes. Then Amason Kingi emerged, and the two have managed to take the Jubilee government head on.However, there is a new kid on the block, Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja.Just like Joho, Samboja who defied all the odds to trounce political heavyweights in the race during the August 8 poll, has seen his tenure as county governor start on a low note.Joho spent the better part of his first tenure battling court cases challenging his election amid questions raised over the authenticity of his academic credentials.Samboja's situation is not any different. Already, the Wiper politician who was sworn in last week has appeared in court severally to defend his academic papers. To add onto his headache, Kenyatta University, which purportedly awarded him a Bachelor of Commerce degree, has disowned him.Should he negotiate his way past the current challenges, Samboja, will be strong enough to take on Kenya's bare knuckle politics head on. And alongside Joho and Kingi, the trio may revolutionize Coast politics.
