To many, he is a lucky man who is riding on his family's big political name to score big politically given the circumstances that led to his election.
However, over the past three years, Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang' has proved his doubters wrong that he is his own man.
When the young Moses Kajwang' was 'handpicked' by ODM operatives to fly the party flag in the 2015 Homa Bay Senatorial by-election, very few people knew him. But to Raila's party, he was the right man to inherit the seat from his brother Gerald Otieno Kajwang', who for the past 17 years had been Raila's trusted political ally.
The choice of Moses Kajwang' as his successor raised question marks as he was viewed as inexperienced.
The political greenhorn would later go on to win the seat by a landslide as he eclipsed veterans including former Rangwe MP Philip Okundi. That marked the beginning of the Moi University-trained IT specialist's political journey.
Kajwang' would immediately establish himself as an eloquent debater in the Senate and quickly became a darling of many.
His August 2017 win confirmed that he is no longer a lucky man riding on his family's fame but a brilliant young man with his own political strategies.
Going forward, Kajwang' can pride himself as one of the most senior politicians from Nyanza whose future looks promising. And with Raila's trust, the young Senator is only hoping dominate Nyanza politics.
