The former county chief said Kenya today needs unity more than ever before- the country has come out of one of the most divisive elections since independence.

"I am really happy that the two met and agreed to work together," the Chama Cha Mashinani party leader said in an interview with Citizen television on Tuesday.

"That is the spirit that all Kenyans must adopt because we need to move forward together as a country."

He said political tempers have cooled down following the handshake that happened at Uhuru's Harambee House office on March 9.

Ruto who lost to Jubilee party's Joyce Laboso during the August 8 general election said Kenyans should never again lose lives during elections as acts of fighting depict that the country does not grow democratically.

He made reference to the incident in Kisumu where police allegedly killed baby Pendo saying such acts promote hatred and divisions that threaten the unity of the country.

He also said he will endeavor to support the current Bomet Governor, Joyce Laboso in ensuring she performs and delivers on her mandate as the county chief.
