Since he suffered a defeat in the August 8 general election, he has kept a low profile.

Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has for the first time spoken on the election results, why he has stayed away from the public limelight and his relation with opposition coalition Nasa.

In an interview with KTN, Mr Ruto said he decided to remain quiet, so as to give his successor Joyce Laboso, a peaceful environment to serve the people of Bomet.

“I just did not want to speak, I wanted to restore harmony in Bomet, and to give the current governor peace to serve the people,” he said on Monday.

Ruto dismissed claims he has ditched the National Super Alliance (Nasa).

“Chama Cha Mashinani has not announced it has left Nasa. I am a straightforward person and I don’t follow rumors on social media,” he said.

On whether he will petition Laboso’s win, the Nasa principal said, “Looks like I am late. I did not plan to go to court. My people did not collect evidence. But I have a feeling there were irregularities, because the results for governor post started streaming in at 6pm, yet they were the last to be tallied.”

There have been reports that the CCM leader parted ways with Nasa.

Nasa principal, Musalia Mudavadi, however dismissed the reports, saying they have been communicating with Ruto.
