Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Isaack Hassan on Tuesday found relief after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) exonerated him on the Chickengate corruption scandal.

While showing satisfaction with Mr Hassan’s conduct, the anti-graft body however recommended that charges be pressed on the other IEBC commissioners because they (EACC) found “evidence of criminal culpability on the part of the four persons”.

The said four suspects are former IEBC Chief Executive Officer James Oswago, agent Trevy Oyombra, Hamida Ali Kibwana and Kenneth Karani.

Hassan appeared before EACC on March 8 this year over the scandal, a point he used to address his innocence, saying that the Chickengate report by British authorities had not implicated him in any way.

The decision by EACC will be good news to Hassan whose name has recently been dragged in the scandalous allegations that threatened to end his services at the electoral body.

However, the relief could be temporary pending the decision by Cord/Jubilee parliamentarians deliberating on a structural overhaul of the electoral organ.
