[Photo/kbctv.co.ke]Isiolo County Commissioner (CC), George Natembeya has advised the Borana Community from Isiolo County against carrying out revenge attacks.
Natebeya who was speaking during a peace meeting held in a hotel in Isiolo said a revenge by the community whose livestock was stolen by suspected cattle rustlers from their neighbouring Marsabit County would be counter- productive.
“If you carry out a revenge, I will wash my hands and cease from pursuing the livestock because this will cause lawlessness giving an opportunity to criminals from both sides to practice livestock theft with impunity,” said the CC.
Natembeya said the government was making all the possible efforts to recover the livestock and would not hesitate to use the necessary force if diplomacy with the neighbouring Marsabit County fails to bear fruits.
“No livestock stolen from neighbouring counties and brought to Isiolo have not been returned to their owners and we will not sit back and watch as a few disgruntled elements from the neighbouring counties continue to cause havoc to our people,” said the senior administrator.
He claimed there are some politicians using cattle rustling as a political tool to cause animosity between two neighbouring communities and the government is seeking evidence to prosecute them and ensure justice is done.
He said some criminals have come to believe that they have the monopoly of violence just because they have some firearms but reminded them that they could not beat the government machinery.
The commissioner said the government would ensure there was security in the affected area and promised to camp in Marsabit County until the stolen livestock was recovered and returned to the owners.
