This comes a time when the country is trying to come to terms following several terrorist attacks across the country that have led to the death of many people, most of them being non-Muslims.

Last week, more than 140 students from Garissa University College were brutally killed by Al Shabaab militants from the war-torn Somalia, where it was alleged that the attackers were killing students based on their religious affiliation.

But speaking at Kisii University on Friday, Pastor Henry Monyancha said terrorists were individuals with satanic motives contrary to Islamic teachings.

“I have stayed with my Muslim brothers in several parts of the country and I don’t think they preach extremism. Terrorists are few individuals hiding in the name of Islam in bid to bring religious disintegration in the country,” he said.

“Even in the Quran, nowhere people are said to murder others in the name of the religion. These are just desperate people with a motive of bringing enmity among people from different religions,” he said.

He asked the government to work closely with Muslim clerics in bid to curb radicalisation among the youths across the religion divide.

“Radicalisation among the youths is a serious tragedy that cannot be fought by Muslim clerics alone. Curbing it needs concerted efforts from not only the clerics but also the government,” Monyancha said.
