Police in Tel Aviv have questioned David Bitan, the ruling coalition whip over alleged corruption charges days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Kenya, reports the Independent.

Thousands of Israeli’s poured in streets of Tel Aviv on Saturday calling for immediate resignation of Netanyahu, who has been in past linked to various corruption scandals.

Bitan, the Independent reports, is behind the controversial Bill which seeks to promote legislation that is believed to be targeting beleaguered Netanyahu, who faces multiple corruption scandals.

He so-called ‘recommendation bill’ would end the police’s current practice of recommending to the state prosecution office whether to indict suspects, on completing their investigations.

Already Bitan, a close ally of Netanyahu, has been grilled six times regarding gifts he allegedly received from Hollywood and business figures.

Separately, he has also been probed on an incident where Netanyahu is believed to have conspired with him to lobby for positive media coverage.

Last week, Netanyahu was one of few foreign head of states from the west who attended President Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration.

A number of Western leaders sent only congratulatory messages moments after the inauguration which has been dismissed as a ‘coronation’ by opposition leader Raila Odinga.
